A grieving widow, Katie Martin, attempts suicide after months of being haunted by visions of her deceased husband. Her husband, Michael, fights to keep her alive from beyond the grave and Katie wakes in a hospital. The doctors call in a Christian therapist, Gerald McIntyre, to consult about Katie’s case. As a condition of her release, Katie is ordered to begin attending court mandated therapy. Meanwhile, Michael’s childhood best friend, Brandon, receives the news about Michael’s death.
Frustrated by his failures to break through to Katie, Michael reaches out to Gerald instead. After a few months of seeing Gerald, she admits to him that she’s being haunted by the ghost of her dead husband. Hoping to help her overcome the guilt he assumes is the cause of her hauntings, he encourages her to go on a journey to confront her past. Brandon decides to take a trip back home after his fiancée breaks off their engagement unexpectedly.
Katie reluctantly agrees and sets out on her journey. Knowing where her journey will lead, Michael reaches out to his friends for help. Gerald continues to guide Katy during her journey, and is pleased when she reports that she’s no longer seeing the ghost and that she’s feeling better. Brandon meets Katie at a bar on the outskirts of his hometown and is smitten by her, but forgets to get her contact information before they part ways for the evening.
Brandon decides to stop by the neighborhood where he and Michael grew up and runs into Katie. She finds herself falling in love with Brandon as he helps her to navigate the town, but her husband’s ghost appears again. Gerald receives a frantic call from Katie who tells him about her meeting with Brandon and seeing Michael’s ghost again.
